Inception (2010)

Leonardo DiCaprio stars as Dom Cobb, a thief who steals information and secrets from his targets via their dreams.

When he becomes wanted for his wife’s murder, Cobb is offered a chance at redemption when he’s offered the seemingly impossible task of committing the perfect crime – planting an idea in someone’s mind rather than steal from it.

If he succeeds, it could change his life forever, but enemies lurk everywhere, and is well aware of Cobb’s capabilities.

The King’s Speech (2010)

Starring Colin Firth, Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham Carter, The King’s Speech follows the true story of the initial weeks of King George VI’s reign, as he tries to overcome his debilitating stammer.

Thrust into the King’s role after his brother, Edward, decides to abdicate the throne, George – or Bertie to his family - enlists the help of speech therapist Lionel Logue in order to overcome his impediment and rouse the nation with hope as World War II looms.

Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World (2010)

In this comic book adaptation, Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera) thinks he’s struck gold when he meets the woman of his literal dreams, Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead). Now all he has to do is break-up with his current girlfriend, Knives, and Ramona’s seven evil exes – each more bonkers and out for blood than the one before it.

Throw in a kickass soundtrack for good measure, and you’ve got yourself an addictive watch.

Hanna (2011)

At aged 16, Hanna Heller (Saoirse Ronan) is the perfect assassin – and has been trained her entire life by her father (Eric Bana).

Sent on a new mission, Hanna makes her way from the Finnish wilderness on a quest across Europe, shadowed by an intelligence agent intent on tracking her down.

However, as she comes close to completing her mission, she discovers something that challenges everything she believes in.

Zero Dark Thirty (2012)

A CIA analyst and her team plays an instrumental role in tracking down Osama Bin Laden and bringing him to justice after the devastating 9/11 Attacks on New York – where World Trade Center towers were hit with planes and collapsed, killing nearly 3,000 people as a result.

In the 10-year worldwide manhunt that follows, Zero Dark Thirty tracks the interrogation tactics and operations in Pakistan and Afghanistan that ultimately led to the 2011 nighttime strike that killed Bin Laden.

The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)

Leonardo DiCaprio stars as Jordan Belfort, a hustler and wannabe Wall Street ‘wolf’ who begins to build his name at a brokerage.

Through defrauding wealthy investors out of millions, Belfort makes his own, and uses it to live a hedonistic lifestyle of sex and drugs, seemingly free from consequence.

However, what comes up, must come down, and soon Belfort finds himself at the wrong end of the FBI, the SEC, and his feisty wife.

Margot Robbie, Jonah Hill and Matthew McConaughey are among the co-stars.

Dallas Buyers Club (2013)

In this three-time Oscar-winning movie, Matthew McConaughey stars as cowboy Ron Woodroof, a man whose life is upended forever when he discovers he’s HIV positive.

Woodroof fights the ticking clock on his life by establishing an underground medication smuggling ring, bringing non-FDA approved drugs across the border from Mexico in order to help him and others with HIV to survive. Jared Leto co-stars as transgender woman Rayon, who becomes an unlikely ally in the new venture.

John Wick (2014)

John Wick is a legendary hitman-for-hire, who trades in his career for peace and quiet with the love of his life, Helen. When she dies, all he has left of her is a puppy she gifted him to help him cope – a dog he treasures as a result. So his whole world comes crashing down when his beloved beagle is murdered by Russian mobsters who also steal his 1969 Boss 429 Mustang.

Soon he’s going back to his old ways and is on a mission for revenge, unwittingly falling into a war with New York City’s Russian mafia as a result.

Interstellar (2014)

In the dystopian future of 2067, Earth is quickly becoming no longer inhabitable by humans, with the entire planet under threat of extinction. Joseph Cooper, a former NASA astronaut and pilot (played by Matthew McConaughey) is tasked with returning to his duties and leading a team in space as they attempt to find a new home for humanity. The first stage of their mission: make their way through a wormhole near Saturn and enter a new galaxy.

Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)

The fourth film in the franchise, Mad Max: Fury Road tracks the story of Max Rockatansky, who is living in a post-apocalyptic world where essentials like water and petrol are hard to come by. Joining forces with Imperator Furiosa, Max goes up against an evil cult leader and his army of supporters in an all-out war – with a lot of car chases.

Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Hugh Keays-Byrne, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Riley Keough and Zoë Kravitz also star. The film won six Oscars.

Spotlight (2015)

Spotlight follows the true story of The Boston Globe and a team of investigative journalists that unwittingly uncover a decades-long cover-up of systemic sexual abuse in the Roman Catholic Church.

What starts as an investigation into one defrocked priest, who was accused of molesting upwards of 80 children, the team soon discover dozens of priests in the Boston area alone who are likely to be involved.

Arrival (2016)

In Arrival, Amy Adams stars as linguistics professor Louise Banks, who helps a team of investigators when spaceships touch down on Earth.

Attempting to unravel the mystery of why they were there, Banks and the team have to figure out a way to communicate with the aliens, as the threat of war looms over the world.

IT (2017)

Based on the novel by Stephen King, this horror movie is not for the faint-hearted. The story centres on seven kids who find themselves the target of an evil being that emerges from the sewers every 27 years to unleash chaos and feed on the children of Derry, Maine.

Determined to beat the murderous being, known as the clown Pennywise, the children need to face their own fears to bring him down.

Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile (2019)

Zac Efron makes a star turn as twisted serial killer, Ted Bundy, in this semi-fictional story about the murderer’s dual life.

Single mother Liz Kendall (Lily Collins) thinks she’s won the jackpot when she meets Ted, a charming, soon-to-be lawyer who is great with her daughter.

As the pair begin a life together, a string of murders begin to terrify women across the United States – and soon Liz has to grapple with the idea that her perfect man may be hiding a deadly secret.

Wonder Woman (2017)

Princess Diana (Gal Gadot) has lived in isolation with the all-female Amazonian race her entire life, and has been trained since birth to be a warrior. One day, she rescues American fighter pilot Steve (Chris Pine) who warns her of the brewing war in the world beyond. Deciding to leave the safety of her home, Diana discovers her true destiny as Wonder Woman, as she launches a mission to stop God of War, Ares, from destroying humanity.
