Avril Lavigne finally responds to conspiracy theory, George Miller admits that Mad Max and Happy Feet are sister films & Harrison Butker gets roasted after misogynist speech (2024)

Hi friend,

Have you listened to our third episode of Cringecast yet? In this one, Georjia and I share embarrassing anecdotes from the VIP section at Bingo and a birthday pub party, ask each other if we’d rather get trolled after sharing a scammer story or have such bad breath that our dad creates a mouthwash, and for a reason you have to find out yourself, at one point Georjia asks me to top her. You can listen to all episodes of Cringecast wherever you get your podcasts. 💚

Expect equally as chaotic energy from this week’s newsletter:

  • YouTube and toddler teaching icon Ms Rachel raised $50,000 for children in Gaza, Sudan, Ukraine and the Democratic Republic of the Congo and continues to donate her ad revenue to the charities involved

  • George Miller finally admits that his film series Mad Max, and his animated movie, Happy Feet, are sister films as they have the same concept. Every film bro is sobbing right now…

  • Kansas City Chiefs kicker, Harrison Butker has caused a major controversy by telling female graduates that one of their most important roles in life will be "homemaker", making female fans call for him to be fired while roasting him on TikTok

Context: The first part of the Would You Rather refers to a story in the Guardian about mining billionaire Gina Rinehart who demands the National Gallery of Australia remove her portrait from the exhibition (you might understand why if you click on the article). The second part is inspired by the news that the New York/Dublin portal had to temporarily shut down after a guy mooned the Yanks and an OnlyFans creator flashed people in Dublin.

Georjia: I’m not going to meet everyone in the world, but my portrait would meet an average of 4 million strangers a year (if we’re going off London’s National Gallery) and a lot of people in museums just look and walk away to the cafe or gift shop, some might stand and stare, but I just know some teens would take pictures and make a meme or something. If it was bad and then people met me in real life, they wouldn’t critique me, they would critique the artist, which isn’t so bad. They might even feel sorry that I got the poor treatment. But to get something that bad from a respected artist, what did I do to them to deserve it? I’m not too sure why the portal was there in the first place – whoever decided it was a good idea, I love you! It’s almost the perfect social experiment, but to be the reason this hilarious portal gets closed down, the SHAME! Everyone was having so much fun and I had to ruin it, that sucks but its not as bad as having a bad painting on show to everyone. I will shamefully close the portal.

Annie: When I was on dating apps, I remember meeting up with a guy who – whether he was honest or not doesn’t matter here – said that I “reverse-catfished” him. By that, he meant that I looked better to him in real life than in my profile pictures. What a compliment! Definitely feels better than if it had been the other way around. Going to a gallery to see an ugly portrait of myself and having all my friends tell me that I definitely look better in the flesh might soften the blow a bit. However, I just know that my paranoid brain would be convinced the artist has some vendetta against me, or is trying to communicate something about my character (see the newly unveiled Prince Charles portrait). I think I’d rather be the reason the portal had to shut down. As far as I’m concerned, the reason has just been attributed to questionable/legendary behaviour (depending on who you ask). What a story to tell your friends after! I’d use that as my “fun fact” in ice breakers for the rest of my life.
